We know what you’re thinking. Another software update – cue the collective eye-roll. But hold that thought, because Color Tuner // Flex Pack 4.4 isn’t just another version number to ignore while you hit snooze on the install prompt for the tenth time.

This latest update is different.
Let’s just take the recalibration wizard as an example.

No more clicking through a maze of settings just to find out what you already know – you’re out of whack. The new wizard lets you recalibrate and recalculate directly from the printer tab. No drama. No detours. Just straight-up efficiency, taking your calibration workflow went from ‘ugh’ to ‘oh wow’ – in fact, it’s so much easier, we reckon anyone who’s allowed near the software can be roped into making sure, your calibration does get done. On that note…

Massive shoutout (as the young people say) to the new printer notification system.

If, or should we say when, you need to recalibrate, Version 4.4 isn’t shy about it. You’ll get a notification upfront, like a brutally honest friend who won’t let you leave the house in mismatched socks. But just to make sure, CGS has popped some visual cues in there, so you can instantly see what’s in spec and what needs a little love – this isn’t just smarter, it’s a sensible change to complex software from a team that understands what’s needed.

And if you’re running high-end kit? Relax. You’ll find built-in support for the new Epson SureColor P8500D and the P20560 (a.k.a. that wide-format monster everyone’s been talking about). Oh, and it’ll calibrate both print heads. Because of course it will.

So yes, it’s a real update. Not one of those vague ‘performance enhancements’ that just move the boxes around or change the fonts on and call it innovation. This one trims the fat, smoothes the ride, and lets you focus on the job instead of wrestling with the software.

TL;DR?

Color Tuner // Flex Pack 4.4 stops calibration being a nightmare. For brilliant colour management, CGS is the dream team – smart features (so smart, we reckon you’re not using them all and let’s talk about THAT when you’ve got five minutes…). It was already a slick workflow wrapped round a super smart 4D colour engine. This update has added no-nonsense features where they’re needed. Update it, use it, love it.

NLE;WTKM?

Okay – if that was Not Long Enough, and you really do Want To Know More … CGS has also a few other aspects of Color Tuner and Flex Pack worth mentioning. Talking about, in fact, and we’re always up for a natter. Because why wouldn’t you want to talk about spot color certification, eh? Good news. This update makes it not just easier but possible to use an external measuring device. Handy, that.

And while the improvements to the scatter proof manager are, well – okay, let’s be honest about this one. The update has introduced smarter positioning and alignment tools, which won’t make make the news desks hold the front page. HOWEVER. The Test Chart Generator now supports enhanced ink channel control and new output options – which, in other words, is pretty helpful if you’re producing charts on a regular basis and want to make them zing.

Version 4.4 also expands compatibility with (fanfare):

  • Mutoh 628 and 1628 for halftone printing
  • Roland MG-640 and MG-300 (contone and halftone for FLEX PACK)
  • Roland LG-640, LG-540, LG-300 (contone for FLEX PACK)
  • StreamMasterWG MG300-OGV (contone for FLEX PACK)

And to top it all off, there’s now full support for PANTONE METALLICS Coated color guides: even easier to simulate metallic effects for premium packaging designs.

Oh yes.
We’ll come back to that another day. 😉

In the meantime, here’s the link you’ll need if – like many of our customers – you’re already running (what we believe is) the best colour management software in the wooooorld …  and want to get up to speed with the latest 2025 CGS update to version 4.4  of Color Tuner / Flex Pack…
